One COOL Day is your opportunity to get together with other Impact Toronto (ages 25-40) volunteers to meet, have fun and do Mitzvot all across our community. We’re very excited to have so many projects for our volunteers to choose from on March 14th.

Reena
Location: 37 Denmark Crescent (South of Finch, East of Dufferin)
Time: 9am to 1pm
Reena is a non-profit social service agency dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Established in 1973 by parents of children with developmental disabilities as an alternative to institutions, Reena creates an environment that respects and promotes dignity, individuality, independence and freedom of choice within a framework of Jewish culture and values, providing services to close to 1,000 adults and children with developmental disabilities.
Come out and engage with the clients in recreation & leisure activities such as arts & crafts & Bingo, as well as a "spa day".

NEW PROJECT
JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Jump Start Workshop
Location: Prosserman JCC – Gales Family Pavillion –
Room 205 (4600 Bathurst St.)
Time: 10am to 12:30pm
JIAS supports and integrates new immigrants to Canada. JumpStart is a program of JIAS Toronto that serves to connect Jewish professionals to meaningful employment.
Come out and lend your invaluable knowledge of the Canadian workplace to these newcomers through a fun and interesting workshop, including ice breakers, employment skills development and job interview preparation.

National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, Passover Food Drive

Time: 10:30am to 1pm
Since 1897, the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada, the first Jewish women's organization in Canada, has been a catalyst for change and a powerful pioneering force on behalf of children, the elderly, families, the disabled, new Canadians and the disadvantaged in both the general and Jewish communities.
Come join us as we help to pack food for the Passover Food Drive. Last year approximately 10,000 individuals were recipients, including a significant proportion of seniors and children.

The Bernard Betel Centre for Creative Living is a learning and wellness centre committed to maximizing the quality of life for seniors in the community and reflecting Jewish values.
Come out and make some new friends with the seniors as we play a variety of games with them.

The Clothing Cupboard (Jewish Family & Child)

Promenade Mall, Suite 313 (Mall Entrance 1)
Time: 1pm to 3pm
The Clothing Cupboard offers free clothing for women & children. They carry quality gently-used clothing including outerwear, footwear and accessories in all sizes from infants to women.
Come out and help pack up the fall & winter apparel and stock the shelves with spring & summer wear. This is a big job for The Clothing Cupboard, so all hands on deck.

The Good Shepherd Centre

Good Shepherd is a charity that offers food, shelter, clothing and more to anyone in need. Services are offered free of charge, in a spirit of compassion, trust, acceptance and respect, where you can help to give dignity and hope to those most in need.
Come help prepare and serve breakfast as well as hand out doughnuts and coffee.

Help Cook At Eva’s Place

Time: 9am to 1pm
Eva’s Place is a co-ed shelter which operates on a 24 hour basis and services youth between the ages of 16-21. The residents of Eva’s place have access to many different types of services, including The Family Reconnect and Independent Living Programs.
Come help prepare a kosher meal for the youth in the shelter, eat with them, and explain the food and culture to the youth.

Help At Eva’s Phoenix
Location:
11 Ordanance Street (near Strachan Ave. & King St. West)
Time: 9:30am to 12pm
Eva’s Phoenix is part of a larger organization called Eva’s Initiatives, which operates three youth shelters, namely Eva’s Phoenix, Eva’s Satellite and Eva’s Place.
Eva’s Phoenix is a transitional housing and training program for street-involved youth, and offers long term shelter (up to one year) for 50 youth ages 16-24. There is a focus on developing independent living skills through innovative programs.
Come help with co-ordinating their donation room, painting the living room in one of the houses and clean up in front of the building.

Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention

Time: 10:30am to 1:30pm
Boost is the only organization in the city wholly dedicated to eliminating abuse and violence in children’s lives through timely, specialized intervention and prevention services. They have been serving the community for more than 27 years, where the primary prevention programs are endorsed by public, private and separate school boards.
The BOOST handbook, “Understanding Child Sexual Abuse: A Guide for Parents & Caregivers”, requires updating due to a change in legislation for the age of consent. Come out and help photocopy a revised page and cut it to size. These pages will then be taped over the old page of the handbook. With 2,100 copies of these handbooks, they need many helping hands!

MukiBaum Treatment Centres

Time: 1pm to 3pm
MukiBaum provides day and residential treatment programs for children and adults with complex disabilities such as Autism and other rare developmental disorders.
Come help assemble special art cards which have been created in the art program by the people served by MukiBaum. Each painting is one of a kind and requires help to fold the card stock, glue on the painting and pairing them up with the envelopes. Packages of 3 cards are given to each of the attendees at the MukiBaum Gala (900 guests) taking place on Saturday, April 10th, 2010. Please note that this project will be taking place at the Prosserman JCC, Gales Family Pavillion, Room205.

Bloorview Kids Rehab

Bloorview Kids Rehab (Bloorview) is Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital whose vision is to create a world of possibility for kids with disability. They see children with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy, amputation, epilepsy, spina bifida, arthritis, cleft-lip and palate, autism and other developmental disabilities. They pioneer treatments, technologies, therapies and real-world programs that give children with disabilities the tools to participate fully in life.
We have designed a custom made program for the kids involving crafts and games. Come with your creative hats on to make this an extra special afternoon for the kids.
