Engaging a Growing and Dynamic Community
For generations Toronto has been a magnet for wave after wave of Jewish immigrants from all over the world. Today, large portions of our community are made up of first generation Jews who have arrived here from Israel and the former Soviet Union in particular. Our efforts to engage these new Canadians in community life need to be expanded and refocused if we are to be successful with future generations.
UJA Federation, in conjunction with our key partner agencies, is embarking on an energetic effort to support the aspirations of these communities to raise their families as Canadian Jews. Our early success with the newly created Israel Forum points the way to pioneering efforts that will develop internal leadership amongst these communities.
The true strength of our community can and should be measured by our ability to welcome newcomers, and to that end, our efforts will focus on youth, education and leadership development.
